Obama, Clinton Meet Privately

6 06 2008

They’re making sure to be very tight-lipped on what was discussed, but this meeting could very well be why Clinton wanted to wait until today or tomorrow to formally concede.

And oh yeah, one comment on one blog (just a comment, not like a front page post) complained about they wished that “Clinton would be more like Edwards” in conceding and endorsing since it “didn’t take him four days.”

Umm…Edwards dropped out the day after the Florida primary. Of course, since it counted for 0 delegates at the time and thus “didn’t count,” then it would be difficult to argue that Florida was the reason Edwards dropped out. If it wasn’t, then he dropped out, guess what, 4 days after the last primary that counted at the time – South Carolina.

As far as endorsing, it took Edwards 3 1/2 months to endorse Obama, and only did so after securing a pledge from him to do a poverty tour during the campaign. Yes, Edwards and his 18 or whatever delegates still had enough influence to do that much.

Yes, the situation was different because the nomination hadn’t been won yet. I’m not arguing Edwards was wrong, I’m arguing that Clinton isn’t necessarily wrong by waiting until the end of the week.

If Clinton doesn’t release her delegates quite yet, you might see some complaining, even though Dean didn’t release his delegates until the first day of the Democratic Convention.
