The Final Nail in the “Fake Birth Certificate” Conspiracy Theories

22 08 2008

One of the last things that the PUMAs have clung on in regards to Obama’s birth certificate is that no reputable group has actually examined the actual physical item.

That is no longer a problem:

FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false… Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

I haven’t seen any retraction from No Quarter yet in regards to this (don’t hold your breath), but Factcheck.org is about as independent and reputable a group that could possibly look at the document.  The PUMAs will probably come up with something like Obama needs to submit the document to a rigorous physical examination or something, but this issue is pretty much as over as over can get.

Update

As I said: Don’t hold your breath:

Factcheck.org has a conflict of interest in covering Barack Obama because they are owned by The Annenberg Foundation.

Who are you gonig to believe? Me or your lying eyes?

It gets better:

Why did the campaign go to such trouble to digitally black out the certificate number when it could have stuck a piece of solid black tape over the number, especially since, as Factcheck reported, they were in such a hurry?

Because it takes 5 seconds to open it in photoshop and add a black box, when they perhaps didn’t want to damage the document by putting actual tape on it?

Since Factcheck is seemingly in the business of helping the Obama campaign fight smears, did Factcheck ask the campaign about the rumor that Republicans are holding Barry Soetoro’s birth certificate? If so, what was the campaign’s response? If not, why not?

Because if you hear a rumor about the GOP holding “Barry Soetoro’s birth certificate,” then it must be true.  And how, exactly, would they get a hold of it?

How did Factcheck end up getting this access? Did they ask the campaign, or did the campaign offer to show it to Factcheck? The article is mysteriously vague on that point: “FactCheck representatives got a chance to spend some time with the birth certificate.”

Do they really have to say who asked who?  Why is it even relevant?  My guess is that Obama asked FactCheck, but even if it were the other way around, what, exactly, does it change?

Oh, I know I know, I’m just a loopy conspiracy theorist/anonymous blogger.

Obviously.

And there’s even more.  However, if these people were in fantasyland before, I have no idea what country they’re in now.  They’re basically now on the same level as moon landing deniers.

McCain Ad: Obama doesn’t have to worry about a family budget, unlike me

22 08 2008

Well, the ad didn’t put it exactly like that, but it’s pretty close:

I’m pretty sure McCain is including himself in the “we” that do have to worry about his family budget.

However, I’m not sure how wise it is to talk about “having to worry about the family budget” just when people are talking about the fact that you own 7 houses and all.  I hightly doubt McCain has to worry about it very much, either.

Also, I’m not sure McCain has any chance of winning this one.  While Obama indeed earns quite a bit now (mostly from his books), his life is hardly a tale of coasting on riches.  Meanwhile, McCain can’t even remember when he last filled his own gas tank (maybe he should be pressed for an estimate?)

Also note the continuing lying about Obama’s tax plan (well, unless you’re like the top 2% or something.
