After the Republican convention, there are effectively 9 weeks left in the Presidential election.
I think Obama should continually stress the “out of touch” and especially the “more of the same” attacks on Obama by each week, every week, launching a new issue-based attack on McCain, linking him to Bush, showing him as out of touch, or both.
What this would do is create 2 to 3 new ads a week, and keep new, fresh talking points coming out that the media can talk about, and keep McCain on his toes by forcing him to keep responding to continuing new attacks. Also by aggressively spending money on ads and other things, Obama can help to effectively bleed McCain dry.
Now, what are some of the issues that Obama could use as a weekly theme. Some that I’ve come up with include:
- The Iraq War (show how McCain was cheering for it immediately after 9/11 and bombard people with the quotes showing how McCain said that “no one agrees with Bush more than I do on Iraq” and so forth
- Social Security (show how McCain supports privatization, and re-stress why it’s bad)
- Taxes (remind people how bad McCain’s plan is, including noting how much McCain himself will get back from his own tax break vs. the average American. You can eve do it in percentages rather than real numbers, though that works too)
- Federal Judges (not only on abortion, but support of judges who support the unitary executive, among other bad things.
I’m sure there are many others. That’s just what I can come up with off the top of my head.
